José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal (known in Spanish as [xo?se ?peð?o ?alma?seða pas?kal]; with a birthdate of April 2, 1975) is a widely recognized Chilean and American actor. After spending almost two decades in minor roles in theater and on TV, Pascal achieved his breakout role as the character Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of the HBO hit fantasy series *Game of Thrones* (2014). He further rose to fame by playing his portrayal of Javier Peña in the Netflix crime show *Narcos* (between 2015 and 2017). He went on to appear in the movies *The Great Wall* (2016), *Kingsman: The Golden Circle* (2017), *The Equalizer 2* (in 2018), and *Triple Frontier* (in 2019).
Pascal's leading roles as the character Din Djarin in the Disney+ sci-fi show *The Mandalorian* (since 2019) and Joel Miller in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama *The Last of Us* (from 2023 onward) led to his global fame, and earned him a reputation for portraying fatherly figures. In *The Last of Us*, he received numerous accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and nomination at the Golden Globes. He continued playing fatherly roles in the movies *We Can Be Heroes* (released in 2020), *Strange Way of Life* (2023), and playing Fink the fox in *The Wild Robot* (2024). Pascal also took roles in big-budget films such as *Wonder Woman 1984* (from 2020) and *Gladiator II* (2024).
Active in theatre since 1999, he debuted on Broadway as Edmund in a 2019 adaptation of King Lear. Pascal was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
